Golden sands, rugged coastline, picturesque harbour villages, all surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean - welcome to our Cornish Getaway!
Day One
Departing South Wales, we head to the most southerly county in the country, and on to the excellent Esplanade hotel in Newquay.
Overlooking Fistral beach, your base for the week includes evening meals, accommodation and a full English breakfast each morning, along with an indoor pool and spectacular views from the lounge.
Day Two – St Ives and Penzance
Today, we continue soaking up the scenery with a visit to the jewel in the crown of Cornwall, St Ives.
With an almost Mediterranean feel, this mix of old and new brings this popular harbour town together. Art galleries and coffee shops sit side by side, and the narrow, winding streets invite you to explore so much more. From here we continue through the Cornish lanes, through Penzance, before heading back to relax for the evening.
Day Three – Lost Gardens of Heligan & Mevagissey
Heligan is one of the most mysterious estates in England. Lost to the brambles of time since the outbreak of WW1, this Sleeping Beauty was re-awakened in 1990 to become Europe’s largest garden restoration project. Today, Heligan’s 200 acres are a paradise for the explorer, wildlife, plant lover and garden romantic.
After our visit to Heligan, we'll make our way to the nearby fishing village of Mevagissey. Named after two Irish saints, St. Meva and St. Issey, this picturesque village dates back to at least the early 14th century. During the 1800s, Mevagissey prospered on the back of the abundant source of pilchards caught by the fishermen. Here you can stroll around the maze of narrow streets where you’ll find plenty of seafood restaurants that the village is renowned for, as well as the multitude of pubs, cafes, galleries and shops that cluster around the harbour walls.
Day Four – Padstow & Bodmin Jail
We head north of Newquay and on to the beautiful, picturesque town of Padstow; here you'll find golden sands, chocolate box buildings and plenty of places to sample the local fresh produce.
After lunch, we'll leave Padstow and make our way over to Bodmin Jail for our afternoon visit with a guided tour.
Built in 1779, Bodmin Jail is a landmark historical site in the heart of Cornwall, showcasing the rich and darkly fascinating legacy of Georgian and Victorian crime and punishment, which now offers an immersive, world-class experience for visitors of all ages.
Day Five – Free in Newquay
A day to enjoy at leisure; you can either relax at the hotel and make use of the facilities available, or our driver will offer you a drop off in the centre of Newquay if you wish to explore the town.
Day Six
Time to bid a fond farewell to the south west coastline, heading back to Wales for an early evening return.
